It all started at Clemson University in South Carolina. In 2007, assistant professor of English Rhondda Robinson Thomas read A Nickel and a Prayer, the autobiography of Jane Edna Hunter. Hunter's remarkable story--and the fact that few people today have heard of it--spurred Dr. Thomas to design a class in which she and a team of undergraduate students would work to revive Hunter's legacy. That class became the Jane Edna Hunter Project.
