Guided Tour of Woodburn Plantation

The 'Big House' at Woodburn Plantation
The 'Big House'
On November 5, 2008, Dr. Thomas and the students of ENGL 482 took a tour of Woodburn Plantation, Hunter's childhood home. First, the team was treated to a trek into the woods where the Harris family cabin once stood. Then, the team toured the "Big House" Hunter describes in A Nickel and a Prayer.

The tour was led by Dr. Tim Drake of Clemson University.
As a child growing up in South Carolina's Upstate, he had seen and sketched the cabin the Harris family once lived in as tenant farmers. Dr. Drake's drawings form the basis for the replica cabin that was still under construction during our visit, but which has since opened to the public.
