On May 31, 2009, four members of the JEH Project team participated in the dedication ceremony for the Reconstructed Birthplace of Jane Edna Harris Hunter at Woodburn Historic House in Pendleton, South Carolina.

JEH Project team leader Rhondda Robinson Thomas gave the keynote address, “Jane Edna Harris: The Southern Roots of a Northern Activist.” After Dr. Thomas's moving tribute, team members Chelcee Coffman, Cam Whiteside, and Camille Nelson each read a selection written either by or about Hunter.

The event, which was held on the grounds of Woodburn Plantation, was made possible by thePendleton Historic Foundation of Pendleton, South Carolina. (Click on the image above to view a recreation of the day's program.)
